Need an emergency phone line on the beach?

Who doesn’t love to spend a day on the beach?  When you are enjoying a day at a beach that is monitored by lifeguards, you might be familiar with the lifeguard tower and with some of the safety procedures they might follow.

At many beaches, there is more than one lifeguard tower, spread out along the beach so they can properly monitor everyone in the water on a long beach. The image above shows a lifeguard tower with the number 2C. Some beaches have more than 10 lifeguard towers.

How do the lifeguards communicate with the people in the water? How do they communicate with each other?

There are two typical communications requirements at a public beach to maintain safety:

1. Communicate with emergency services when needed.
2. Communicate with people on the beach and in the water.

When you have an incoming signal to at least one structure on your beach, the Teletics w*intercom can be used to provide onsite communications for the remaining buildings. W*intercom is a wireless Voice over IP (VoIP) and Public Intercom System for harsh environments.

Public Announcements and Evacuation Signals

Sikome Lake Case Study
At Sikome Lake, there are four buildings, and staff were using two-way radios to communicate with each other. There were regular phones in the main building but not the other three. What the facility required was regular phone access in all the buildings and a
way to communicate quickly with the public in the event a mass announcement was necessary.

RigStar Communications, a trusted service provider to Sikome Lake, installed a Teletics W*intercom system which provided a complete solution for public address coverage and phone service for every building at Sikome Lake.

Now, any staff member at any time can pick up a phone and issue a warning to all the visitors from any building location over the PA system. Plus, phones can be used from any building to any other building in the complex. Since the w*intercom system is completely self-contained, phone or internet disruptions never affect the reliability of the w*intercom system. Communications onsite between buildings and the PA system continue to work.

All of this was installed for less than the cost of the existing public address system at the main building and with no additional wiring between buildings.
